Introduction

The Gottlieb and Christina Raile familiy arrived in America from Neudorf, South Russia in 1884 and settled in Cheyenne County, Kansas in the spring of 1885 after spending the winter in Sutton, Nebraska.

The young couple traveled with three small children, Christina, Magdelena, and Gottlieb Jr. Their oldest child, Dorothea, died in infancy in Russia. While in Sutton, another Dorothea was born.

The family traveled with Christina's parents, John and Christina Gienger. Their port of entry was Castle Garden, New York (pre Ellis Island).

Children born to the couple after they settled in Kansas included John, Peter, Frederick, Gustane, Michael, Katherine, Martha, Jacob, George, Philip and Elizabeth.
