Road 1, Road S, NW Kansas, on the Colorado border - this is where I grew up. I visited my mother a few weeks ago. We spent a day touring the countryside. The farms are big and flat in this area. The home sites are far apart and many of the families that once lived on them have moved "to town." They still operate the farms.
Most of the land was originally homesteaded in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many have been past down through the families. This is true with our family. The three quarters of land my grandparents homesteaded remain in the family.
