Today is my first day of blogging. I wonder if I have anything interesting to say.
Returned to Los Angeles after spending Christmas in Kansas with my family. This was a less stressful Christmas due mainly to the fact the weather was almost spring like. No blizzards, no airport closures, no frigid cold air that chokes your lungs while breathing - just smooth sailing the whole time.
Besides the usual expectation of opening gifts and eating too much, I was anxious to see Mother's seven new cats. The story is long and twisted, but the bottom line is no one would expect my mother to adopt even one cat and now she has seven - one indoors and six who live on the backyard patio. The story started with three small kittens presenting themselves outside the big sliding door leading to the patio. Then another one arrived and then another one - five all together. The mother cat disappeared and a foster mother took over bringing her one kitten along - now there are six.
It is difficult not falling in love with tiny little kittens, and Mother started feeding them. Of course once she named them, we all knew they were there to stay. Every morning she would take inventory and one morning there was an extra one. This one was number seven and it seemed like an appropriate name - Number Seven.
All of them were feral except for Sara who was later named Sam because it looked more like a boy cat and later renamed Samantha when it turned out to be a girl cat. Sam(antha) managed to work her way into a permanent position in the house and is now Mother's constant companion.
One of the others (Tigger) died of an unknown cause bringing the brood down to six - but not for long. A few weeks later an orange kitty showed up and she is called Next. My brother and sister-in-law helped Mother make them a nice warm shelter on the patio where they spend most of their time. They are getting much bigger and they all have distinct personalities. A few of them are getting braver, especially Muffin who seems to be the leader. All of their names are: Sam(antha), Rachel, Mingo, Tabetha, Muffin, Number Seven and Next.
I have posted a photo album with a few of their pictures. They are all camera shy except for Sam(antha).
